PRIME, Problems of Recognition In Making Erasmus project has just started its research.

Questionnaire: http://www.prime.esn.org/content/questionnaire-students

Problems:

Despite a rapid growth in the past 20 years, the Erasmus programme is still facing several challenges. The recognition of courses studied and competencies gained abroad are among the main obstacles which discourage students from participation. According to Erasmus Student Charter students are entitled to expect full academic recognition from their home university for credits achieved during the Erasmus study period, in accordance with the Learning Agreement. In the same time the 2006 and 2007 editions of the annual survey of the ESN reveal that slightly more than half of all Erasmus students receive full recognition of their courses taken abroad. This is supported by Trend V report of the European University Association (EUA) stating that 47% of higher education institutions in Europe admit that some their students have problems with the recognition of their credits gained abroad.

Aims of the study:

The PRIME project has several objectives, all of them leading to improving the quality of study abroad experience for Erasmus students and thus promoting and increasing the learning mobility. Its aim is to draw attention of the stakeholders and parties involved in the process of recognition to ever-lasting problems and obstacles students face and to provide them with good practices and possible solutions.

In order to fix these issues Two questionnaires, for Higher Education Institutions and for students, are now online and will remain open for three months, until end of April 2011!
